Okay, I lied..
seems I mis-remembered a conversation over on the Toshiba forum of
Compu$erve. The trackpoint is IBM's invention, licensed by Toshiba.
The IBM uses strain gauges to sense pushing the stick, Toshiba decided
to go with force sensitive resistors. No reason was given, besides
mumble about "better technology."
