here's the question: what flavors of communications software are people
using on their tp's and with what success? The reason I ask is I'm
having lots of problems with my thinkpad in certain situations, and
while I _think_ the problem is hardware related, it could very well be
software.
Here's the problem: essentially, characters are getting dropped at
high speed. I've tried this with both my intel and with a direct
connection, and I get the same results -- skewed display as a result
of lost characters. I'm trying to connect to my university, and the
exact same setup works perfectly on my desktop machine -- same
hardware (direct connection), and same software (windows for
workgroups 3.11 w/ Procomm Plus for Windows -- although the problem
also manifests itself with the Windows terminal package, and a number
of DOS-only comm packages).
Has anyone seen this behavior under similar situations? Or am I the
only one with (what appears to be) an iffy serial port? As I said,
I'm leaning towards a hardware problem since it works on one machine,
and doesn't on another; additionally since it fails so consistently
under so many different communications packages.
suggestions?
