Is there an upgrade price to Warp for a licensed owner of both
version 2.0 and version 2.1 OS/2 for Windows?
There's not a special upgrade price, but there is a coupon for people
upgrading from OS/2 for Windows to OS/2 Warp v3. I believe there are
still quite a few of these coupons available -- I saw boxes plastered
with them at CompUSA last week. The coupon is for a $50 rebate, and
is good until December 31.
I can think of two ways to get a coupon: the salesperson at Indelible
Blue told me that he could get some (I was ordering Warp at the time
-- they're asking $79 which is not unreasonable), or you could go to a
software store that still carries v2.1 and remove one from a box there
(yikes! did I really suggest this?), which doesn't seem so
unreasonable since you have already paid for OS/2 for Windows. Also,
there's been a lot of discussion of this in the "comp.os.os2.misc"
newsgroup lately, though I haven't followed it to see exactly what has
been discussed.
And is Warp cheaper if you get the CD-ROM version? Can you make
install diskettes from the CD-ROM?
As far as I know the price is the same for either ($75 at Egghead is
the best price I've seen). After the rebate this is $25, which is
pretty reasonable. Actually, it turns out to be cheaper to buy OS/2
for Windows just to get the coupon -- I've seen it selling for $25,
which would mean that the total cost to get Warp is $50 -- and then
throw away the old version.
