Only IBM (or Lexmark) keyboards will function with a ThinkPad dock. There's a
hardware check run at startup that detects the presence of a clone and blows it
out.

I'll post the exact details if anyone is really interested. FWIW I use a
standard 102-key UK, PS/2 keyboard with my dock.
