Something like 90% of the world's AM LCD panels are made by Toshiba and Sharp.
(There is a lot of conjecture whether NEC actually makes its own panels). The
Thinkpads use the Toshiba display, btw. The random pixel is probably a minor
design flaw in the way the screen rows/columns are addressed.
