I don't believe that the problem is specific to your (or
anyone's) particular modem.
I was in contact with an IBM techie named Doug Staples
(1-800-772-2227 ext. 1029) every day last week trying to
resolve some of these same problems on a 360C running
OS/2. He tried unsucessfully(!) to reproduce the
suspend/resume problem, even though IBM has previously
documented this problem per APAR # PJ15544.
When pushed for a solution, he recommended that I send the
machine in for a system board replacement, claiming that
my machine must have a board with a different revision level
than that which is coming off the production lines now.
So, it would appear that there is no software solution to
these various problems, and that the BIOS upgrade that IBM
has been promising for months now will likely do nothing to
address these issues.
If these bugs/glitches really bother you, I would recommend
that you get in contact with Doug at the number given above
while this is still fresh in his mind. Perhaps a new system
board is in order for you, too. If your machine is new, you
might think about returning it for a new one, as I believe
replacement parts are generally refurbished rather than brand
Doug mentioned to me that he might try swapping the system
board in my machine with the one in his company loaner so as
to avoid complications in getting approval from his supervisor.
Is it just me, or does this sound Mickey Mouse?
Maybe I accidentally dialed Packard Bell instead...
Good luck in solving your problems.
