I was connected via Compuserve PPP internet service at 14,400 baud.

The quality is not quite as good as a telephone, but quite understandable
most of the time. There seems to be a 1 or 2 or 3 second pause between the
time you stop talking and you hear the other person answer, but part of that
is just the time it takes for the other person to realize it's his turn. You
almost need to say "over" when you're finished talking to make it clear.
