Thinkpad IR port as serial port under unix?

Has anyone set up linux on a thinkpad (mine is a 701) to use the
infrared port? I'd like to get talking with my sharp wizard organizer
- i already have a c program from the net to talk the protocol, got it
working on sun workstations using a pclink serial cable, but don't
know how to get linux talking nicely via the IR as a serial port
(though i gather that it would be cua1, with the internal modem at
cua0). Any hints?
