a very interesting and useful thread. don't recall seeing the
whole answer to the question in the faq, though i don't have it front of me.
seem to me to be two aspects:
1. your hard disk is completely absolutely trashed and either you want
to rebuild is from scratch (no back-up) or you have a brand new
one to use in its place.
2. you have a new, second hdd that you want to build a system, eg,
linux, etc. that you can interchange with your main hdd.
be nice to see a) a list of what you need, b) where you get it if not
ibm-on-the-internet and c) a cookbook of how to do it.
it is complicated a bit by the fact that ibm has different diskette
policies for different countries/markets i believe.
