  Hello,

In general the 2000 series drive capacities are based on using maximum
compression. They use 2:1 which is not valid for most data (1.5:1 is more
real). So a 250 Meg drive is really a 120 and a 800 meg drive is really
  a 400.

As I mentioned before I tried these 2000 series drives at work and decided
not to use them on my home systems. The 2.3 Gigs capacity of my basic 8mm
drive is without compression and no formatting needed! Even with my 6525
(525 meg large cartridge) drive it would format in 10 minutes. It went to
the end of the tape and came back. The 2000 series had to go over every
track (there are like 14 or more of them).
