Speaking of IRQ's on the ThinkPad 701 -- Mine is presently configured as follows:

I'm running Windows 95 OSR2 from a 2.1 gig HD. I have applied the Flash BIOS upgrade from IBM. I have the Communications Port (conventionally COM2) and the IBM ThinkPad Infrared Port (COM2) disabled because they want to use IRQ 3.
In this configuration, I have to plug my trackball into the PS/2 port. As a consequence, I am unable to use the middle button which is supported by the driver only when the trackball is accessed via a serial port. So I want to use the Communications Port (re-enabled and configured to COM2 via the CMOS setup) to access the trackball. That means the Panasonic CD-ROM would have to use a different IRQ. It's choices are 3,4,7,9 and 10.
I could use IRQ 10 for the CD-ROM without conflict if I could relocate the Xircom network adapter. It's choices according to the manual are 3,4, 7,9,10, 11, and 15. If I could assign IRQ 11 or IRQ 15, I would be home free to configure the rest of the IRQ's the way I want. However, when I got to Control Panel/System Properties/Xircom CD-IIps CreditCard Ethernet Adapter/Resources and attempt to change the IRQ, I find that Windows 95 OSR2 limits my selection to 3, 4, 7, 9 or 10. Neither 11 or 15 are not offered as viable options. If I attempt to manually enter 11 or 15, Windows tells me that the setting is not valid for this device and automatically chooses IRQ 3 instead.
Paul, can you (or anybody else reading this) tell me how to use IRQ 11 or 15 for the Xircom network card given this situation? My suspicion is that this is a Xircom driver related problem, but that being said what can I do about it?
