Hi all,
My officemate just got his TP600 PII-233 yesterday, and I brought in my
TP701 for comparison. This is what I noticed:
The 600 is a tad thinner than the 701.
It is as deep as the 701 is wide.
The same almost goes for the screen.
The keyboards are the same size.
The taper at the bottom of the case make the 600 easy to lift from a table.
The IR at the side might be a hassle for head-to-head connections.
The case is stiffer, especially behind the display. The 701 would show
smears when I push from behind, and I didn't dare push anymore on the
600, but saw nothing.
I won't even start comparing the displays. Or the speed.
I find the system-beeps on the 600 annoyingly loud.
The trackpoint is nice, as usual, but I find that on a 640*480 screen, it is
as good as a mouse, on a 1024*786, I think I might prefer a real mouse or
Trackball in the long run. The distances are too large to keep the pressure
on the TrackPoint. It is still better than any other laptop pointing device
(except maybe the HP Omnibook Pop-out Mouse for righthanded people only).
It also lasts on battery. Big difference here: My 701 batt's are down to about
5 minutes usable time, one is completely dead. Any suggestions? I'm trying
to cycle the 5min one, but the others are probably dead, right?
Is a good LiIon worth it? I would like to get more memory, a bigger harddrive,
but only if it is usable with battery. Memory, HD, and Battery sounds expensive.
Sniff.
I still like the 701 a lot. I will trade immediately for a 600, though ;)
