PLIP with a TP755cx works fine, but transfer rate is at about 56kB/s.
This is ok for for data synchronisation, but at least for installation
purposes I would prefer an Ethernet PC-Card.
If the parallelport of your model is ECP, not only EPP, transferrates
should be much higher.
