Sounds good so far. NT is so much better for software development, it's
like night and day.

I didn't know it mattered which slot you plugged a card into. Are they
different?

This sounds familiar. The part about "at home on the faster network." <g> I
cringe when I connect to the overloaded 10BaseT network at Adobe...

And a good thing, too. <g>

My ThinkPad configuration is close to stock, with the serial port, printer
port, modem, and sound enabled on their default settings, and infrared
disabled. In the Network control panel, the 3C575 is set to I/O port 3000,
memory address C8000, and IRQ 11. Maybe try those settings?

That makes sense to me. (All but the external mouse. <g> I like the
TrackPoint a lot better than a mouse myself--been using them on my desktop
machines for years--but everybody's taste is different.)

The reason for the name is a trade secret, known only to the program's
authors.

I haven't seen much. I went through some of the same headaches as you--the
3C575 didn't want to cooperate at all at first. Then I stumbled into some
settings that work, and it's been terrific ever since. Hot swap and
everything.

This is with the old 3C575 driver. I just downloaded a 2.0 version from
3COM's web site and now I'm debating where I'm brave enough to try it. <g>
