David, I think I figured out the deal on the 3C575--at least on my machine.
I made the mistake of upgrading to the 2.0 drivers I found on 3COM's web
site. Nothing worked after that. No network at all. So I went back to the
1.1 driver that came with the card. It still didn't work! Then I found the
December 1997 driver I'd gotten off 3COM's site when I first got the
ThinkPad. Tried it and everything started working again.
I don't think it's the settings, I think it's the driver. At least for me.
I'm sending you (in a private message, not to the list! <g>) a copy of the
December driver. Let me know if it helps...
