Hi folks!
This is only for people trying to run Linux on their laptop...
Has anyone managed to configure the XF86_SVGA (RedHat package
3.3.2-15) server to give 800x600 resolution with the above
hardware/software configuration?
I have been pulling out my hair trying to get this to work. The worst
thing, is that I actually managed to get everthing working under older
versions of RedHat (4.2) and XFree86 (3.2, from memory).
The man page for XF86_SVGA claims that this version (3.3.2) supports
ThinkPad's Trident chipset "tgui9320lcd", but doesn't recognise it
when I set
Chipset "tgui9320lcd"
in the XF86Config file. However it does seem to recognise "cyber9320"
which I don't think is the exactly correct Chipset (these servers are
notoriously fussy about the Chipset setting). I can get 640x480
running at the moment which is an extremely poor workaround at the
moment, considering that *theoretically* with the 1 Mb of video RAM on
this model of ThinkPad I *should* be able to get up to 1024x768!
Thanks,
--- Alex
