I thought I'd give an update on this dead screen issue. I took mine in to
my friend who repairs monitors/builds desktops as his primary job. He took
it apart and said that the cable is twisted and made up of so many
individual wires that it was impossible for him to diagnose or fix. So, at
this stage, I am left with the option of spending $1500 on a new screen,
trading mine into IBM for $750 for a refurb screen (+ repair labor I
imagine) or try to find a dead unit with a good screen as Bill suggests. I
remember someone on the list mentioned something a few weeks ago about
spilling some water in their 365XD (could I be dreaming or does anybody else
remember this?) If someone does, email me and maybe we can talk....

Another idea - if enough of the 365X/XD users out there complained about
this inherent fault of their 10.4 TFT screens do you think IBM would bother
doing anything? (Considering as well that most of us would never think of
buying anything but Tpads.) I also had a 360c (smaller screen, TFT though)
and it was perfect for 2+ years until it was snagged out of my car one
day....

P.S. Moral of the story - when buying a thinkpad with a 1 yr warranty go for
the extended warranty period.
