I've tried installing two different brands of combination ethernet/modem
PCMCIA cards into my 770ED with Windows 95 OSR/2. One was a USRobotics
"Megahertz" 33.6 Ethernet Modem 10 Mbps LAN Adapter/33.6/14.4kbps Data/Fax
modem. The other was some IBM card with the same specs.
In both cases, I obtained the appropriate drivers from the manufacturer's
web page. In both cases, the problem behavior was the same: I'd go to Add
New Hardware, Have Disk, etc., I'd pick the correct Multi-Function Adapter
>from the list, I'd reboot...and, on Windows 95 starting up, it pops up a
"Recognizing New Hardware" message, which resolves itself into "Adding
Cardsoft PCMCIA Modem". And, then, indeed, I now have a CardSoft modem
installed in my hardware, instead of the appropriate brand of
Multi-Function Adapter...and, thus, I can't access the network portion of
the card at all.
Is this a Win95 problem? Is this a problem with the PCMCIA-card handling
software that comes with the 770ED (SystemSoft Card Wizard)? I'd love to
resolve this so I can determine whether or not I'll actually be able to use
any LAN cards on my machine or not, and whether I'm going to be stuck
picking specific brands or models that others know work with the 770ED.
I hope this one turns out to be a common problem, and simple to solve.
Thanks so much for any help!
