I saw this ad in a local buy and sell. I don't know the seller or the
machine. Oh and when he gives his phone number the areacode is (503)

Those who frequent this newsgroup may recognize this machine as one
which was advertised on 8/24. You're right. Same machine. Same price.
I bought this a week ago from the seller in the original post. I
figured if it were the quick fix, I'd fix it. However, It needs a
sytem board repair or replacement and I don't have the desire,
knowledge or extra dough to pony up for one and install it. The
plastic holder for the little system board battery is cracked,
(Perhaps the result of an earlier attempt to "fix" it...) but that may
not be the only problem with the system board. . So I'm selling it for
what I bought it for.
.
I do have a little additional data on this Thinkpad, after some
research and some minor diagnostics. All indications point to a system
board problem. The AC adapter checks out fine, with a continuous 16.77
VDC output. The battery reads 5.18 VDC, suggesting that the battery is
discharged (anything under 9.6 VDC) but not dead. It does come with an
external floppy drive and is in good physical condition, as the
original poster said.
Is it less than a year old? Per the serial number, February of 1997.
let's face it - if it were less than a year old, whoever had it before
would have gotten it fixed under warranty, one would suppose. The
original post follows:
"Pentium 120
1.08 Gig hard drive
8 Meg RAM
11.3" DSTN display
Charger / adapter
Extra external floppy drive
Less than one year old. Battery is new. Machine is in good physical
condition."
So drop me an e-mail at fresk_at_aol.com or call me at 762-0165 if
interested. It's really a "caveat emptor" proposition, but the value
of the parts alone should exceed $150.00
Thanks,
John Fresk
