Folks:

Warning: Wondered if all are aware of this problem with TP770 model
9459-1AU (233/mmx, 5.1GB, 14.1" screen):

Some of these have a defective motherboard that only fails when memory is
added to one or either of the two DIMM slots. The failure is random and
mystifying system crashes of all types--from hung screens to blue death
to total system power-off. (I wiped and restored my entire system twice
in a hellish week before calling IBM tech support.)

Query: in the process of resolving this issue, I was told that the
Viking memory chip that I had installed was "not Thinkpad-proven", and
that I should replace it, even though it passed the computer's own bios
tests fine. Any thoughts? Should I junk/return the 32MB DIMM and go
with IBM mfg memory?
