I don't know if this may work, but an old workaround for such cases
is to insert an empty headphone jack into the receptical. Don't short
the circuit, though... it is a very quick way to mute when quake and
the boss overlap...
I have a feeling though that the system beeper is independent of
that... my office mate's TP 600 sends our hamsters scurrying for
cover every time he boots up ;-)
