I can't help much with the freezes/crashes but you should use the hardware reset button instead of your method. Look for it in a small hole just below the power switch. Press it in with a paper clip or other suitable pointy object.

Be sure that you keep going to the IBM ThinkPad support site and have update all of your driver software as directed.

Enjoy!

Subject: Problems? with new Thinkpad 600

I just purchased a Thinkpad 600 (233MMX with HPA screen, upgraded to 96 Mb RAM) about 1 month ago. It's a pretty cool machine but I have a couple of questions. I've read about the instance where it begins to boot, then starts over. Mine does that, but I haven't really worried about it and from what I've read, I probably shouldn't. It does boot very slowly, however. I did a clean install of Windows 98 (upgraded the BIOS and everything) and have pretty much the same software setup as my desktop (AMD K6-233 with 128 Mb RAM). My desktop boots very fast, but the laptop seems to just sit at a blank screen with a cursor (an underscore type of cursor) after the logo screen has gone away (about 30 seconds). Does anyone know what it might be doing?

The second concern I have is that it has locked up hard three times so far where the keyboard won't even respond. When this happens, the power switch on the machine won't even turn it off. I had to take it off of AC power and remove the battery to get it to turn off so I could reboot. This doesn't seem particularly good for the machine, but I have no idea what else to do. The last two times it happened (today), I was just surfing on the internet, so I'm not sure what caused the lock up.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated,
