APM - since Fixpack 6 for OS/2 Warp 4
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since fixpack 6 for OS/2 Warp IBM has implemented a new powermanagement
compliant with APM 1.2.
To enable the default keyboard-functions (Fn-F4, Fn-F12) one has to adjust
the APM-settings manually using Engery-object (Systemconfiguration/Energy ->
Settings-notebook). One has to enable the second choice which may be called
something like
"Activate APM-BIOS-support"
in the english Versions of OS/2. By this option one disables all OS/2-support
for powermanagement to the ThinkPad's BIOS-functions. (In fact nearly all
functions IBM provides by the new APM-version since FP6 are build in there
anyway.)
It's also possible to use the Energy-object of OS/2 Warp. But notice that
then also Fuel-Gauge etc. will no longer work! To do this one has to select
"Activate APM-BIOS and OS/2-support"
(first choice, and the default). Now OS/2 has the complete control on
powermanagement, non of the old-fashioned BIOS-functions will work anymore
(at least not on my 760XD). That is one can't use Fn-F4 etc anymore.
Additionally OS/2 knows only the suspend-mode, so hibernation is no longer
possible. The enhanced features for wakeup set in ThinkPad-Features may now
be set on the second page of the Engery-objects settings notebook. The only
new function provided by the Energy-object of OS/2 is the "switch-off" entry
in context menu of Energy. It shuts down OS/2 and switches off the ThinkPad.
(Well known behaviour of DOS95).
!!! To enable these new features one has to ensure that CONFIG.SYS has the
following line
RUN=D:\OS2\BOOT\APMDAEMN.EXE
(directly after APM.SYS-line) which is not added while apping the fixpack!!!
Without that line some very strange behaviour may occour...
