Depends on the OS you are running. I originally bought a Mediavision
Portable CD using what looked like a proprietary card, but turned out to
be a BUSTOASTER by New Media. At the time, they supported OS/2 and had a
new driver on their site. Got it up and running, but the 2x CD wasn't
good enough for some installs, and getting it on the Warp install disks
was a pain.
Finally went out and bought a Panasonic 8X and with their directions
(included), was able to install Warp 4 and other software. HOWEVER, the
Panasonic PC SCSI card and it's drivers for OS/2 are NOT supported by
Panasonic - duh!
Their support of Wintel is much better, and the SCSI card is great,
runs SCSI-II to my CD and a tape backup.
If you are using OS/2, be aware that the Panasonic driver does not
allow you to change irq, and that the pcmcia driver in the TP will
assign the next available IRQ as the driver loads, which might make some
other irq unavailable! When my scsi card is installed, I do not have IRQ
3 available, and lose my com2: on the replicator! Have tried with IBM to
get a resolution, but they do not have an answer because the Panasonic
install does not create a '.SCR' file which could be used by
'autoutl2.exe' to change the irq that will get assigned!
I will check the 'redbooks' and use some diags I got from elsewhere to
see if I can decode the Panasonic card and write a working '.scr' file.
Will stay in touch.
