Dear David,

This list is great! I've gotten more info in one day than I'd
been able to find in a week.

According to IBM EZserv, 'the motherboard is bured out'. I thought
it was something trivial, but EZserv's pronouncement disuaded me.
Here's what happened: one day my computer stopped working if it
wasn't plugged into the outlet. I checked the battery and it was
fine. In the next month or so it'd work fine if plugged into the
outlet, but would have blinking sessions where the screen would get
brighter and dimmer as if the AC adapter was being plugged in
and unplugged.
Then one day it died as I was typing. The next day it came back
to life. 2 days later it died again, this time more permanently.
I opened her up and messed with it. As it turns out if I push down
on the top of the thinkpad (eg. where the '560' sticker is at the top
of the keyboard) with a fair bit of force it comes back to life.
I'd be very interested in hearing about the blown solder connection.
That might be what's happening here.
Thanks for the pointers on the resellers and repair centers. Any
info on how I might diagnose the blown solder connection, etc,
would be appreciated. I have to think it's something as simple
as that, since everything basically works if I push down on
the casing.
Best,
Tony
