This could be repaired by someone with suitable (small) soldering tools.
Just go through all the connections... This might also be a connector
problem - sometimes a product named Cramolin (conductivity enhancer)
helps and is cheaper and easier than replacing connectors. Available
at most electronics parts stores.
I ran in to something similar with my 755 except the DC to DC converter
is conking out. So instead of paying IBM to fix it I just got another
whole 755 from Electro Rents for $495. This way I also got a battery,
a hard disk with W95 installed on it, a screen with only one half bad
pixel, etc, etc, for slightly less money than just letting IBM fix the
first one (and having nothing more than what I started with when they
are done). ER even threw in a fairly decent carrying case plus their
service was good - I called them Thursday and it was here Friday...
