You might try updating, the BIOS and the UltraBay driver.
Both are available @ http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/DSHY-3PGT93.html

Subject: 770 UltraBay II & Iomega Internal ZIP

Last week I purchased an Iomega Internal ZIP drive for me
770 and noticed that it wasn't completely compatible. It
works well, including all the right-click ZIP Tools options;
however, the UltraBay icon in the Systray and the UltraBay
animation DON'T function properly. Mainly they don't indicate
the presence of the ZIP when it's installed.

I posted a question about this in several logical newsgroups, etc.
Today I received this response from IBM:

"Iomega is not a ThinkPad Proven vendor and the drivers, etc.,
would come from Iomega."

One would think that the OEM for a product would be IBM
Proven. Guess not...

If anyone is considering getting an internal ZIP, recommend
you get the VST ZIP, since it is IBM proven.

John
