Of course this works, in principle. The problem is
a) when I switch to the external monitor, it works until I start XFree.
Then the screen remains black. So my guess is the modeline settings are
not optimal.
b) I don't know how to configure my XF86Config so that I can use a
higher frequency for the monitor without burning the Laptop screen. Does
XFree know which Modeline to use for which device? If not, how can I
specify that?

Could anybody who has configured an external monitor on a TP send me
their XF86Config?
And the kernel settings for sound, if possible? (8-bit is enough for
me).

Many Thanks,
