I've got a brand new ThinkPad 380Z (PII-300, 96MB) that I've had for
less than 2 full weeks. Today I tried doing some audio recording using
the mike and speaker jacks on the side. The speaker jack works fine,
but the mike jack seems to be slightly out of wack.

If I insert the mike jack all the way (just like I do for the speaker jack),
then the external mike is TOTALLY DEAF! However, if I put the mike
jack in all but the last 1/16" (or so), then the external microphone seems
to work just fine. Unfortunately, I have to fiddle with the jack until I get it
just right before I can start recording.

Does anybody else have this problem on a 380Z? How about on other
ThinkPad models? I can't afford to lose the machine for a week while
I send it in for repair. Is there any alternative (other than live with the
problem)?

Thanks in advance.
