CPR for 360...

I've got a dusty old 360C which I'd like revive from it's hideout in the
bottom of a drawer. It has a problem with the main battery power and backup
power, so I have to enter the bios date when booting, and the main battery
cannot power it. This is normally not a problem, because I just run it on
wall power.

Wanting to install Windows 95 on it, I need to upgrade the BIOS to 1.43 (or
at least 1.40). The docs say to make sure to have a fully charged battery
and have the ThinkPad plugged into the wall...but I'm willing to risk my
system by relying only on the wall power (we have very few (if any) power
outages here). The solution to the power problems are anyway a new system
board.

When running the Flash BIOS upgrade 1.43 (menu: 2. Update system program),
I get some different error messages. The first one is like this:

Error
The system power management is disabled. The process has been cancelled.
Esc=Cancel

Looked around on IBM's site. They mentioned something about ensuring that
the power.exe is being loaded from the config.sys, so I added it (had just
low-level formatted the hd so there is no old stuff lying around). I still
get that error sometimes when running the update software, but trying with
and without battery in, I sometimes get no errors (but no action in system
update except it goes back to the menu), and now I get this one also:

Error
This process requires a charged battery to avoid an accidental power off
during an update. Turn off the computer and install a charged battery in
the computer.
Esc=Cancel

Ironically, my battery is fully charged and in good shape--it is just not
seen by the computer. ;)

So, my question is quite simple. How to I trick/fool/overcome this so I can
update to the BIOS needed to run Windows 95? Any chance that BIOS 1.40-1.42
is not asking for this? Where to find the older BIOS files? Or can I run
Windows 95 on my BIOS 1.16?

Any help i sappreciated.
