Surprisingly, it uses jumpers. On the 750, it appears to use cable select, but
this is not the case (because using a newer hard drive connected the same was
as an older one doesn't let it work).
On a newer HD, you might need to trim off the pins on the far end (a block of four),
if it requires that you have it open for master (the older drives used closed for master).

More than likely a cable or HD problem.
Does the HD spin up when it doesn't detect?
Does the HD light stay on?
