I find the internal ZIP100 in my 770 very fast. Also have a parallel
port Iomega ZIP, but only use it to make a set of Norton-ZIP-Recovery
disks. I know that Norton-ZIP-Recovery can be made by only using
the internal ZIP drive, but I want to retain the boot from floppy setup.
BTW, I'm not sure that my machine would recognize the Iomega
internal ZIP for booting (See below).
FWIW:
The UltraBay II on my ThinkPad 770 doesn't recognize the new
internal IOMEGA ZIP. The ZIP functionality is OK -- including
the right-click Tools options. It's just that the UltraBay Icon
indicates that a CD-ROM is installed instead of the ZIP - even
though I have the latest BIOS and drivers installed.
The only dysfunctional effect is that it seems to take a long time
to enter and recover from Suspend Mode when the ZIP is installed
-- though it does suspend. While it's entering Suspend it seems
like Windows95 OSR2 freezes, but it eventually suspends and
restores from suspend.
I should have purchased a VST ZIP since it's on the IBM Proven List.
I presumed that IBM hadn't listed the Iomega yet - thinking that the
OEM of a peripheral would certainly be IBM Proven. Also, the
Iomega was about $60 cheaper.
