Sorry Brian, not true. Your thinkpad isn't running on the battery until after the
power fails. While on AC, the unit runs directly off the mains with a portion of
the current sent to the battery to charge it, if required. Any deterioration in the
line current (spike, etc.) would directly affect the unit. The only thing you are
protected from are voltage drops sufficient to cause the unit to run directly
>from the battery (don't remember what this was, but it was pretty low) and
total line failure.
