Thank you for a most informative posting.
Do you by any chance know which brand and model number it is ?
Teac , Sanyo etc...

If I know what the OEM part number is , it "might" be possible to convert an existing TP760 series
CD by gutting it and replacing it with the guts of the 770's DVD unit.
It's a far shot ....(grin)
But I have done similar things with the TEAC E42 ,E44, E46 series ( 2x ,4X, and 6X) cd's so it's not totally of base.

If you have any other pertinent info; that would be most usefull ;-}
i.e it looks like the external dimensions are:
Height .79 inches
 Width: 5.31 inches
Depth 5.89 inches
But, as an example: .xx inches of that are Plastic casing etc.
