Thanks, but my wife loves it and prefers it to my 701cs. She likes having
the floppy integrated. And it seems a shame to trash something that still
works. Perhaps I'll try installing Linux and Star*Office.

Does anyone know how well Linux and Star*Office run with 8 MB? 12 MB? On a
486/50 with 120 MB disk?

        i just took a look at a new price list from apricorn and they do not
list the
        340, BUT it most likely is the same CC DRAM memory card..

        i checked with one vendor, 8meg additional IS the limit..!

        8meg $98..! and that is MY cost..!

        the consensus of opinion is not printable but boils down to WHY not
get a newer
        thinkpad..?
        there are MANY great deals out there..

        see if you can find a decent 701C.. :-)
        or a 755CE which will blow the top cover off an old 340..
        for not much more than a new 8meg part will cost..
