Hi. This latest problem is really frustrating: On my 770ED with Windows
95 OSR2, I can no longer suspend or hibernate the machine.

If I try to suspend, the pointer changes to an hourglass, as it should.
But instead of turning off 3 seconds later, it never advances beyond that
point, even if I wait half an hour. Ctrl-Alt-Del reveals "MsgSrv32" not
responding, which I can terminate. Once I do this, I'm going to have a
messy time shutting down the machine, and Windows is never going to get
past the "Please wait while your computer shuts down" message, and I'll
have to use the hard power off.

If I instead try to hibernate, the middle green LED on the top of the
Thinkpad starts flashing, like it should, but nothing changes on the
screen. I am still in Win95, and I can still continue to use Win95 as
though I'd never hit the power switch (which triggers hibernate). Same
behavior if I use Fuel to enter hibernate or suspend.

Annoyingly, if I try the above Suspend, and then eventually work my way out
to the "Please wait..." screen, if I then hit the power switch, the machine
hibernates. Very useful to hibernate at a crashed shutdown screen. Upon
returning from hibernate, I am, of course, right back at the "Please
wait..." screen.

I have tried turning off almost every device I can think of in the Device
Manager, to no avail. What changed on my computer before this problem
popped up? Well, I installed Laplink95, turned my infrared port on, and at
some point uninstalled "VocalTec Internet Phone 5" that I had installed a
couple of weeks earlier. Subsequently uninstalling Laplink and turning the
infrared port back off have not removed the problem.

This may be a tricky problem, but I was hoping there was something about
this that rings a bell for someone, or that there's something simple I'm
overlooking. I'm really hoping I don't have to reinstall my whole
operating system, but I'm also really not liking missing suspend and
hibernate.

Thanks so much to anyone who can help!

Ken
