Neither suspend nor hibernate were working in Win95B on my 770ED.
I randomly uninstalled lots of stuff, turned lots of devices off and on,
installed nearly every upgrade from IBM's site, but to no avail.
Finally, I turned off, in Thinkpad Configuration, most devices: Serial and
parallel (although I had tried that before), modem, trackpoint, Ultrabay
hot swap, audio (tried that before too). I also turned off USB in device
manager.
Upon reboot, I got a weird Thinkpad screen (it was a picture of a "0 Off
--> 1 On" flickering at me). All I could do was power off and on again.
Then, when Windows started, it found new hardware: "Motherboard resources"
(there were already two such entries in Device Manager). Anyway, upon
successful start, suspend and hibernate worked again.
I turned every device back on (when turning on Ultrabay hot swap and
rebooting, I got that weird Off On screen again). Now Suspend and
Hibernate work just fine.
Very odd. My unscientific conclusion was that it had something to do with
Ultrabay or USB, except that, of course, now that both those things are
back on, everything's fine, and also I can't figure out what event
triggered this problem in the first place (except maybe installing
LapLink95, not that I can explain that).
This was a special problem, too, because I think it's the first problem
I've posted that I hadn't gotten a single response from the list about.
Anyway, it's all better now. Any thoughts on why this happened?
