I wonder if anyone else has experienced the following (small?) problem with
the 770 series (in fact, I have the 770x 7AU model).
At 'low' and 'medium' processor speed settings, under win 98, I hear a
slight hiss coming from the vicinity of the microphone (or top left end of
keyboard), whenever I press a key or move a window. This 'hiss' is not there
at 'high' speed, it is not present in DOS, under any power mode, and I
cannot hear it while doing any of the tests in the BIOS, which should put to
exercise
everything within the box. The 'hiss' is present, however, even under
Windows 98 safe mode (which seems to exclude the video adapter from the
equation). It appears for the first time while win 98 is loading, just
before the desktop becomes visible.
The noise is none of the normal hard-disk/fan noises.
IBM are suggesting that I should have the machine serviced, but I am not
sure that this is a hardware problem.
Opinions and advice would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Peter
