Almost all LCDs today will do at least 16-bit color, and most reach
18-bit, although they accept a 24 bit signal. I'm sure all the recent
Thinkpads will reach 18 bit or better; your 365XD is a comparatively old
model so you may be out of luck. For a time dual scans were limited to
256 colors due to inferior contrast; quality has gone up and the new
HPAs do 24 bit too, or at least accept a 24 bit signal. My 560X is
running in 24 bit color at 800x600, although technically the LCD outputs
only 18 bits.
