The "i" series is a retail only machine..
i, as a PC VAR, can not get one from my distributor..
OTH, i can get 770Z's and have sold 4 (on to myself) and three to
others..
the "i" series is reputed to be a very good machine, but i must admit
that i have never seen one..
reason you might not see much discussion irt "i" series is they are all
being used by salesmen who have an IT department to take care of them..
(its the only reason other than there is little to discuss since it
works pretty well<g>)
IRT built by IBM..??!!
nothing is built by anybody anymore..
IBM memory is, at various times, samsung, hitachi, Apex, Goldenram,
Apricorn, Viking (i think) and more..
HDD's all are IBM of course..
displays come from various sources..
the newer ones from the IBM/Toshiba consortium.. unless thats old news..
so when you say built by IBM, please be more specific.. :-)
the 770Z's are all assembled in Maxico, the early 770X's (all i had)
were assembled in Japan..
when i send a HDD to a fellow in Italy, i put on the customs declaration
"Assembled in the USA of US and non-US components) because i assemble
the HDD in the HDD shell which is made in the USA, while the IBM HDD
might be made in Japan, Thailand, Hungary, Scotland, Singapore or most
any other place they put up a factory.. :-)
