600 battery swap (was TP570 Announcement)

Can you really swap batteries in a 600 while suspended? Every time
I have tried, the system goes completely off when I remove the battery.
This is with a 2645-45U (300MHz Pentium II). I can't seem to swap
batteries without shutting down (or hibernate, but I don't use
hibernation) or using AC power.
