I have the same network card in my 560X, and for the one week I ran
win98 suspend/resume seemed to work properly, if slowly. One reason
suspend appears not to happen is that Windows takes its own sweet time
to shut down devices, so it looks like it's crashed. I run win95 now,
and suspend time takes anywhere from 5 seconds to 2 minutes. It gets
really annoying sometimes because I have to wait to see whether it's
crashed or going into suspend mode proper. Sometimes there's a DLL
called "mssvc32" or something like that that performs "illegal
operation" and gets shut down. Then nothing happens. If I try to suspend
again it sometimes works. Weird. Resume is also occasionally erratic. If
I close the lid while it's trying to suspend, sometimes it won't wake
up, or reboots while trying to bring up the password screen. Other times
the screen remains blank, and I have to close and re-open the lid before
the password prompt appears. And sometimes I get the password prompt
twice. Now I just wait until the suspend light comes on before closing
the lid ie I suspend using the Start Menu - if I use Fn-F4 it wakes up
when I close the lid (you can hear the HD spin up). Oh and it sometimes
wakes up anyway even if I use the Start Menu.

I think most of these problems stem from Windows (95/98) power
management, not the network card - the "mssvc32" DLL obviously does
something with power management. One thing I know the network card does
do is slow down suspend/resume; you can see that it can take a while for
the status lights on the dongle to go off and come back on during
suspend/resume. All the stuff documented above is with the network card
installed; I never remove it unless I go for extended trips away from
campus.

I've basically learnt to live with it, accepting it as another MS
"undocumented feature" =( It's a real pity the Thinkpads are such fine
pieces of hardware running such poor software. But installing Linux is
such a pain...
