i have used laplink for years..
the newer versions are VERY critical of the video driver..

i se you already know this problem is, most likely, related to the video
driver..

FWIW, try changing the video driver to a more generic one..
i used LL for win95 on a 760XD years ago, it destroyed my system due to a
conflict with the video driver..
i recovered only after changing the driver..
