TP 600 BIOS is IBET40WW has been updated to 4/12/1999. It also fails under
the 12/17/1998 previous version that we tested.

TP 770 BIOS is IDET30WW is currently 12/16/1998, we are updating it but
expect similar results to the 770.

What will boot: 8 models of Compaq DeskPro and Proliant server systems,
which represent 8 different mainboard + BIOS family versions, boot without
incident. Two different models of HP Vectra systems, both of which have
different BIOS and mainboard combinations.

In fact, we have found no other systems that will fail (although we have no
IBM desktops to test with).

The boot disk osboot.img is type 4 (hard drive) of 525MB size. It contains
MS-DOS 6.22 as the OS.

It seems pretty obvious to me that the IBM Thinkpad does support booting
CD-ROMs, but not the same way other vendors do. They will boot Win98 /
WinNT4 / Win2000Beta3 CD-ROMS from Microsoft, but not those created to the
"El Torito" specification using of a hard disk image. At least not a disc
that 10 other models of Compaq / HP systems will boot.

Bill Morrow has indicated he too has had problems with Thinkpads booting
CD-ROMS he has produced. Bill, did your disc boot on desktop systems from
IBM or other vendors?

I have a couple of questions:

1. Have you proven that these CD's boot on other (non-ThinkPad) machines?

2. Have you made sure that you are using the latest BIOS from IBM for
these ThinkPads?

David
