This is slightly off-topic. Please respond by email only, if you feel it is
inappropriate for a ThinkPad list.
I am starting to figure out which next-generation desktop machine to buy.
My ThinkPad is not cutting it for heavy web/java development and I really
want to wait for the mobile Pentium III ThinkPad models at 400mHz that are
due this winter before upgrading.
Does anyone out there have a recommendation for good, fast desktop/minitower
systems with *the same quality of build, reliability and software/hardware
support* as ThinkPads enjoy? The final $$$$ amount is secondary to these
other desired features. Obviously I don't want to throw money away but
support and quality is very important.
I am tending fairly hard towards Dell's Workstation line: dual Pentiums,
good build quality and so on. Anyone with experience of the 410 workstation
towers? Is video card choice really important. I will be running against a
20" Trinitron and a 17" Nanao.
There also seem to be various IBM models out there. Are they as good as the
ThinkPad in these areas?
Thanks.
David
