If you went to Crucial which is basically Micron Technology
memory, it's under $400. Kingston is under $450 at places like PC Zone I
think. Even the IBM Memory is made by Mitsubishi. Atleast the ones for
the 770Z 9549-8AU. I always thought IBM made memory or atleast they used
to. I guess the best brands to go with are NEC, TI, Motorola, Micron
Technology, Kingston, Toshiba, PNY. Not sure about Viking though. The
IBM memory in the options by IBM catalog that came with the machine is
only $449 but I wonder if there are any advantages to using genuine IBM
memory, will they send a advance replacement if there are any problems?
Sorry everyone for not being able to post on the list. My new 770Z sure
has gone through a nice adventure ever since I got it 2 weeks ago. First,
the EEPROM on the system board gets corrupted so even though the machine
was functioning, the system board was swapped out last friday in 2 hours
or so. Then the next thing I know is that when everything was put back
together, the Eject mechanism for the UltraBay II doesn't work correctly
or doesn't pop out. Worst of all, a few screws are missing and the
servicer lost somehow lost the Springs for the doors to the docking port
so a new complete lower part of the base will need to be ordered. Did
anyone ever had the case of their ThinkPad replaced before? I'm wondering
if it comes with the stickers for Pentium II Inside, Designed for Windows
98/NT and the big sticker on the bottom.
