Hi

I found your email address on the Linux Laptop Volunteer database. I
have a Thinkpad 390 with 12.1" LCD TFT screen. The problem I encountered
is
that when I type 'startx', sometimes it shows up alright but sometimes it
becomes blank screen. I am using NeoMagic NM2200 (256AV) chip so I chose
SVGA X-Server to handle it. Under the monitor setting, I choose LCD
800x600. For resolution, I choose 16 bit 800x600. This all went well
when
I type 'startx' but if I quite the X-Window and try to get back in again,
   the LCD screen becomes blank.
I am using both SuSE Linux 6.1 and RedHat Linux 6.0 but non of them will
solve this problem. I am using the latest XFree86 3.3.3.1

When the screen becomes black, the system is still running which means
that I can still type anything, just I can't see it. (For example, I can
type 'reboot' and the system will reboot). I did try 'startx --bpp 16'. I
am suspecting that the problem is the modeline setting. Do you know the
modeline setting for Thinkpad 390 for 800x600 16bpp??

   Thank you
