As Steve Andre would say, I'll bet that something in the
row/column addressing logic for the screen has died. If that is the case,
then looking at a new computer might not be that unreasonable, as a
replacement screen is rather expensive. Any one pixel can go into a
blown-open state but for a line of them, something in the controlling
logic has to go.
