its not..!

IBM used to be well known for bum memory chips..or so i was told by a friend who
bought and sold ram chips..

Apricorn and most others buy the chips, then design the little boards...there is
an eprom on the board too..

on the 770-1AU and 770ED, the DIMM sockets are oriented in the same direction,
the 770X and 770Z has one of the DIMM sockets "flipped" over, thus the former
upside of the DIMM now was on the boddom and the eprom interfered with the side
of the DIMM socket..this little "bug" took about 6 weeks to get 'fixed' with
goldenram..
got some viking 128meg parts 2 months ago, and they were still using this older
desing..
they were not so interested in my help or comments, so i sent it back and got
the goldenram..

Viking had the very first 64meg parts for the 770 when it first came out..they
are a good company, but getting a bit too bnig and diversified, i think..

this is what i was told..micron does make their own chips, but chips are not the
total picture..
engineering the board and mfg. is a large component of the eventual quality..

i identified each port..video in, out and dolby i think..
my enh. video works fine.. no problem..

i have not experienced this..tight now i'm running the standard preload on a
3.2gig drive with office 2000 beta..
using front page 2000 to redesign thinkpads.com..
the supplied 14gig drive has voice type exec on it.. and the standard preload..
did a restore to one of my 14gig drives and did all the usual things with the
DVD and no artifacts or anything wrong at all...
no problems with any of these..

i know, i know, now you want to know "why the 3.2gig drive"..??
well, they're cheap, fast enough, and i like to play.. why use a 14gig or 10gig
just to experiment..?!
