But many people would absolutely swear by those 10.4" screens on the Toshiba
and Sony machines. So 12.1" is already huge in comparison! I know 13.3"
gives you 1024x768, as much as my trusty 17" display, but isn't 12.1"
already "worth the extra size", considering I was thinking about living with
those 10.4" screens already?

Tough, tough decisions... *sigh* :)

Still back to whether I should:

a) go all the way back down and get the smallest possible - either a Toshiba
or a Sony, but live with the small screen and lousy keyboard as well as
struggle with Linux
b) go in-between with the Thinkpad 560, get a much larger screen, better
keyboard, and better support for Linux
c) go one step above, as suggested by many of you, with the 600, as "just"
another 1/4 inch and 1 pound would give me so much more...

Or divide my money into two, and get one a low end ultraportable AND a
really low end 600... !!!
